Distribution of Ashes at St. Charles on Ash Wednesday, February 17, 2021

Feb 16, 2021

In view of the pandemic, the manner in which ashes will be imposed has changed. The Vatican’s Congregation of Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments has directed that ashes be sprinkled on the crown of the head of the person who wishes to receive them. This is an ancient practice that has been done in Europe for centuries.
However, for practical purposes, opportunity will be given to each family to distribute the ashes to those in their own family, if they so desire, as follows:
A kit will be available for each household at our Ash Wednesday Masses (8 am and 11:30 am) that will include a container of blessed and holy ashes, and a prayer card with instructions on administering the ashes and the permissible way in which to dispose of any unused ashes afterward.
Due to the current pandemic, if you are not comfortable receiving ashes either way as outlined above, it is not required.
Let us all please pray for an end to this pandemic.
God bless, Fr. John and Fr. Pius
