The first weekend in May will be a busy one for families at St. Charles. Children will receive First Eucharist at the 4:30, 9:30 or 11:30 Mass that weekend (May 1 or 2). Confirmation will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Monday, May 3 at 7:00 pm. Several families have children participating in preparation programs for both sacraments, making these celebrations in early May extra special for them.

The first meeting for Confirmation candidates is Tuesday, February 2 at 7pm in the Parish Center. Candidates, parents and sponsors will receive an overview of the preparation process for Confirmation. Candidates will learn more about this sacrament of initiation and also be assigned to their mentoring groups. These groups meet on a regular basis leading up to celebrating the sacrament. The Evening of Prayer and Fasting will be held on Sunday, May 2 at 7pm. This reflective time encourages candidates to prayerfully prepare for Confirmation the next day.

Both Confirmation and First Eucharist candidates received their preparation materials along with a special blessing at the Mass of Enrollment on January 10. While many of the First Eucharist candidates have begun working on their ‘Gold Books’, the first meeting for the children and their families will be February 7 in the gym after the 9:30 Children’s Liturgy. The next meeting to help prepare for receiving First Eucharist will be on Sunday, March 14, again after the 9:30 Children’s Liturgy. The final meeting will be on April 11 in the church at 2pm. This gathering features a Teaching Mass celebrated by Fr. Mark Brewer. While fulfilling the Sunday obligation, this special liturgy will answer questions children (or adults!) may have regarding why we do what we do at Mass. Fr. Mark will pause during the liturgy to explain the prayers and actions of our Eucharistic celebration. While this event is a part of the First Eucharist preparation, everyone is welcome to attend.
